A is for Advanced. AAHA sets over 800 standards in 18 categories that a hospital must meet in order to earn accreditation. To provide the best care possible, AAHA's standards are very high and change to keep pace with advanced technology. Liberty Veterinary Hospital offers many advanced services including Laser Surgery, Ultrasound, Endoscopy, Dental Radiology, Pain Management, and the latest medications and products that fit those high standards. A is for Accomplished. Services are useless without the knowledge to use them. Therefore, Liberty Veterinary Hospital is committed to exceeding AAHA's recommendations for Continuing Education (CE) for our employees. Our veterinarians stay on top of the latest in medical & surgical care, vaccines, and medications; and we require our technicians to attend twice the amount of CE that is mandated by Ohio law. We believe you can never learn enough. H is for Housekeeping. Any hospital should be clean & well maintained, but AAHA sets strict guidelines for cleanliness & upkeep that not all hospitals meet. Liberty Veterinary Hospital uses only the highest quality disinfectants, using separate equipment for different areas to avoid cross-contamination. Our hygienic surgical suite means less likelihood of infection than operating in an open room like some hospitals. We run quality control tests on our equipment regularly to make sure the results are as accurate as possible. A is for Accountability. AAHA wants us to treat the whole patient, not just a condition. An older dog might not react well under anesthesia, or an allergy prone cat may have an adverse reaction to a vaccine. For this reason, we require a physical exam, and sometimes bloodwork, to assess your pet's health before providing most services, like surgeries and vaccinations. We feel that this minor inconvenience far outweighs the risk of an adverse outcome.
Ø AAHA was founded in 1933 and stands for the American Animal Hospital Association. It is the ONLY organization that provides accreditation for veterinary practices throughout the United States and Canada Ø There are approximately 6000 clinics that are accredited, but this accounts for only the top 17% of animal care facilities in the U.S. and Canada. Ø AAHA's primary belief is "Healthy Practices, Healthier Pets". Ø Liberty Veterinary Hospital has been accredited since 2000. That was a trial accreditation through 2002, when we again passed our inspection, this time for 4 years. May 2007 marks our third accreditation. Ø To pass accreditation, there are over 800 topics in 18 sections of hospital procedures and function that are required. Ø AAHA sends someone back to Liberty Veterinary Hospital occasionally to check on our status. Ø AAHA offers educational magazines & journals to its members as well as several free phone and web based continuing education opportunities each year for our staff, so we can treat your pets more effectively Ø To help the less fortunate, there is the AAHA Helping Pets Fund for qualified low income owners and good Samaritans. Ø How does AAHA impact your pet's health and happiness? o Machines monitor your pet's vital statistics during all anesthetic procedures in addition to physical observation. o We grade all pets' pain level on a graded scale so that we can ease their suffering and know which treatment is working best. o Our kennel staff records all boarders' conditions multiple times each day, reporting anything abnormal to the on-site veterinarian. o More and better education means the most updated and reliable care for your loved one. o Uniformity of care leads to the best case scenario for your pet.
